Would you like to help someone with your English skills? Our teenagers and young adults from disadvantaged families have been learning with us since primary school, but they often lack opportunities to use the language on a daily basis. This is where you can help!
Just half an hour a week on the phone, video call, email or chat makes a big difference. It's not traditional teaching, but regular conversations, shared exercises and motivation. This helps them improve their language skills, gain confidence and maybe even form a friendship.
If you would like to become a language mentor, please send us a message! We will help you get started and discuss the type of communication that suits you best.
You can talk about everyday life, your hobbies or your plans for the future, read short texts together or show and describe pictures. Simple games such as “5 yes-no questions” or word associations are also a good way to make the conversation more relaxed. The important thing is that the young people feel comfortable and that you have fun practising together!
That's no problem, we won't leave you in the dark: we'll be there for the first video call, we'll introduce you to each other, and we'll play a little game together.
What's more, we've prepared a PDF document for you with concrete ideas for shared conversations as well as dos and don'ts. Go for it!
